Civic Involvement and Distinctions

Dr. Hendrickson is an active Board member of the Women's Foundation of Greater St. Louis where she chairs the Grants committee. The Foundation's mission is to improve the status of women and girls in the St. Louis region. She is also a member of her church council.

Dr. Hendrickson was named a Rising Star in the 2009 issue of Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers, a recognition given to the top 2.5 percent of Missouri's up-and-coming attorneys. She also was named by the St. Louis Small Business Monthly as one of the Top St. Louis Lawyers for Your Small Business in 2009.

Professional Summary

Dr. Hendrickson's practice specializes in patent related issues, including the development, management, and enforcement of worldwide patent portfolios. She has experience in counseling pharmaceutical, chemical, and food science companies, including Fortune 500 companies as well as start-up companies and universities. She works closely with her clients to protect their commercially important products and to help them achieve their business goals while avoiding infringement of competitors' patents.

Before attending law school, Dr. Hendrickson taught Organic and Inorganic Chemistry at the College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas, where she won an Excellence in Teaching Award. Prior to teaching, she worked as an analytical chemist in the agricultural products division of DuPont Company.

Dr. Hendrickson's graduate work involved the rational design, synthesis and solution structure characterization of organometallic asymmetric hydrogenation catalysts. For the determination of solution structures, she aided the development of new NMR-based methods for determining the three-dimensional structures of small molecules.

Dr. Hendrickson received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Cornell College in 1986, where she graduated cum laude. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and was named the Outstanding Junior and Senior Chemistry Student. In 1990, Dr. Hendrickson received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she received both the E.L. King Fellowship for Outstanding Inorganic Graduate Student and the Conoco Graduate Fellowship.

Dr. Hendrickson received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Toledo in 2002. She graduated magna cum laude and was a member of the Order of the Coif. She also was named the Highest Ranking Student in Patent Law, Patent Claims Drafting, Intellectual Property Survey, Research & Writing, Property I & II, Evidence and Trusts & Estates.

Dr. Hendrickson is a member of the American Bar Association, the Missouri Bar Association and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. She is vice chair of the Women in IP committee, a subcommittee chair for the Patent Law and Policy committee, and an active member of the CLE teleconference committees of the Intellectual Property Law section of the ABA. Janet is also the Education Committee Chair of the Missouri Venture Forum where she helps plan and present educational events for entrepreneurs.
