Senniger Powers' client Dr. Shelley Minteer named Inventor of the Year by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis
Dr. Shelley Minteer will be honored at an awards reception held by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) on the evening of Tuesday, April 18, for her novel enzyme immobilization materials and bioelectrodes used to create biofuel cells.
Enzymes in biofuel cells have traditionally only remained active for a few hours, to at most a couple of weeks. However, thanks to Dr. Minteer’s invention, enzymes may now remain active in a biofuel cell for more than a year. The licensee of Dr. Minteer’s invention, St. Louis-based Akermin, Inc., which she co-founded, is exploring the use of biofuel cells as renewable, low-waste, portable power supplies for mobile phones, laptop computers, and biomedical sensor or implant devices.
BAMSL’s 2006 Inventor of the Year Award is just one of several awards Dr. Minteer has received for her advancements biofuel cell technology, including the 2005 Academy of Science of St. Louis Innovation Award. The attorneys at Senniger Powers congratulate Dr. Minteer for her outstanding achievements and significant contributions to the scientific community.
