Legislation relating to generic drugs has recently been introduced into the House and Senate.

S. 369, the Preserve Access to Affordable Generics Act, was introduced on February 3, 2009 and would make it illegal for brand-name drug companies to compensate generic drug companies for delaying entry of a generic drug into the market. H.R. 573 was introduced on January 15, 2009 and would amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to prevent brand-name drug companies from blocking lower cost generics with "authorized" generics of their own. Both S. 369 and H.R. 573 have been referred to Committees.
